Stablecoins Enter Enterprise Payment Workflows, but Value Capture Remains Unproven
Stablecoin & On-chain Finance Weekly | Issue 004 | 13 October 2026
Stablecoin supply is not in a broad boom, but enterprise workflow access is expanding. Distribution is forming; recurring volume, take rates and retained profit remain unproven.
Public research | Full access
This is not a fresh liquidity boom. Stablecoins are reaching more enterprise workflows. Value created is not profit retained: without recurring volume, fees and margins, there is no new commercialization stage.
The one-minute brief
On DefiLlama's 13 October dynamic snapshot, tracked stablecoins totaled about $305.935bn, down 0.53% over seven days. USDC was about $72.864bn, down 1.96%, while OUSD was about $787.59m, up 12.56%. Circle and SAP-backed Tereina plan to bring USDC and EURC into SAP payment workflows, while the FSB highlights cross-border oversight, data and transmission gaps.
Audio transcript
Stablecoins are not experiencing a new liquidity boom, but enterprise payment entry points are expanding. Circle and SAP-backed Tereina plan to bring USDC and EURC into enterprise workflows. SAP's broad reach does not mean equivalent stablecoin payment share. Repeatable volume, take rates, margins and retained cash profit remain the proof points.
01 · SCORE & MEASUREMENT
Evidence maturity, not expected return
Higher scores indicate more mature research evidence, not expected price returns. Data Gap means there is no approved comparable aggregate score; it is not zero.
| Module | Prior | Current | Change / Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stablecoin commercialization maturity | Data Gap | Data Gap | No approved weighting |
| Maturity stage | Production settlement / distribution competition | Production settlement / enterprise workflow distribution | More integration, not a new stage |
| Commercialization direction | Selectively accelerating | Selectively accelerating | Unchanged |
| Capital signal | Structurally positive / competition rising | Structurally positive / more selective | Unchanged |
| Thesis | Strengthened / confirmed | Retained / better discriminated | No new regime break |
02 · WHAT CHANGED
Evidence before narrative
Enterprise workflow access
The Tereina and SAP integration broadens distribution, but actual usage, fees and revenue sharing remain undisclosed. SAP ecosystem reach is not USDC settlement share.
Supply divergence
USDC supply softened while OUSD expanded. Issuers and channels are still competing, and supply is not settlement volume.
Cross-border oversight
The FSB highlights cross-border issuance, supervisory coordination and data gaps that could raise compliance costs and reshape competition.
Visa China card-clearing approval
The authorization permits preparations for a domestic card-clearing institution. It is not a stablecoin license or immediate commercial-clearing approval.
Value capture
Issuers, banks, ERP and payment platforms, and chains may each retain some economics, but the same payment cannot be counted as independent demand at every layer.
03 · THESIS → EVIDENCE → UPDATE
What the new evidence changes
Prior
Production settlement shifted competition toward distribution and economics.
Evidence
SAP workflow integration, OUSD and USDC supply divergence, and FSB cross-border monitoring.
Update
The thesis is retained; repeatable volume, take rates and cash profit remain the missing gates.

|---|---|
| 7 days | Actual enterprise payment launches. |
| 30 days | Repeatable volume and take rates. |
| 90 days | Issuer and distributor retained margins. |
FAQ
Questions readers should ask
Does lower stablecoin supply prove declining payment adoption?
Not necessarily. Supply and verified non-trading payment activity are distinct measures.
Does SAP reach mean 84% of commerce now uses USDC?
No. It describes the SAP ecosystem, not actual USDC settlements.
Did Visa obtain a China stablecoin license?
No. It received preparatory approval for a domestic card-clearing institution.

Evidence boundary: DefiLlama readings are dynamic snapshots; SAP ecosystem reach is not stablecoin payment share; a partnership announcement does not prove scaled client transactions; Visa's authorization is preparatory, not a stablecoin or operating license.
